  The Teacher Training Porgramme Objectives:
  • to gain an insight into common theories of languages structure and acquisition

Group Dynamics:  ice-breakers, warm-up, bridging activities. Teaching English through English.

Analysing a learner-centered, English-through-English EFL lesson.

Week 2

The Total Physical Response Method

Teaching Grammar: presentation, practice and use stages.

Classroom Management.

Lesson planning.

Eliciting techniques.

Grammar mini-lessons.

Week 3

Communicative Approach

Presenting Grammar:

A reason-based approach to teaching grammar. Form/Meaning/Use

Clear objectives in planning your lesson.

Grammar mini-lessons.

Week 4

The Natural Approach

Presenting and Practicing Vocabulary: aspects to cover, variety of activities.

Test-Teach-Test Frame.

Time management in lesson planning.

Vocabulary mimi-lessons.

 

Week 5

Silent Way

Teaching Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Functions and Notions.

Lesson planning: ways of varying your lesson.

Vocabulary mini-lessons.

 

 

Week 6

Suggestopedia

Error Correction. Self-Correction Techniques. Experiential Learning Cycle.

Modifying one's practices based on self-evaluation and peers' feedback.

Mini-lessons on 4 skills.

Week 7

 

Summing-up.

Course Evaluation.

 

Trainees' Final Presentations.

 

 

 

Entry requirements:

  Applicants must:
  • Have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables the trainee to undertake the course and prepare for teaching a range of levels.
  • Have the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers, to successfully complete the written assignments and perform in the observed teaching practices.
